Emotions are Running High
Paul and I talk about our upcoming move pretty much all the time. But yesterday was a day for talking about Mexico, for sure!
In the morning we had a visit from Lise and Ken and their girls. They are Seattle-ites who are planning a six-month move to Mexico and are trying to figure out where they'll go. It is an exciting time for them, and even though they are planning a temporary move and we are planning a permanent one, we had a lot in common.
We met Lise through our blog, which is kind of cool. They are really nice people and I know they will have a great time exploring and experiencing Mexico as a family.
Yesterday afternoon we went to a get-together of the staff (volunteer and paid) of the Key Peninsula News. This was the first function that had included spouses/others so that made it a lot of fun.
Paul had been the webmaster for the first few years of their website, and I took over a year or so ago. I'd given the editor my notice...and before this get-together she'd e-mailed the group with our news. So everyone now knows what we're up to!
We haven't been keeping our plans a secret, but hadn't really told anyone except close friends and family. Just lately I have begun telling people as I make plans for our garage sale, etc. But yesterday was amazing!
Everyone was very interested in our plans. Some were shocked. "You mean NEW MEXICO?" Some had traveled in Mexico a fair bit. One couple has several time shares in Mazatlan and try to spend 16 weeks there a year! (We made plans to see each other in the fall or winter)
We also got a lot of feedback from people that our house should sell easily. We have had some meetings there so everyone has seen it ...anyway, that makes me feel good, too.
All in all it was really fun to finally feel like we are really out in the open about our plans. I don't know why I'd been so reluctant to share - maybe a bit of a worry that I might jinx it - maybe partly that it can be a bit uncomfortable to have the spotlight on us - I don't know.
But yesterday did make me even more excited about that next to the last item on my to-do list before we head out...have a party.

I love reading your posts, Nancy, remember how proud and nervous we felt when met with that same - New Mexico?! - reaction. Enjoy the period of anticipation before the plunge...
