It's Just Practice
for our new life, that is. We know that in Mexico we will need to "roll with it" and our practice starts now.
That's because the people who were going to buy our house backed out at the last minute. We were actually up in Seattle at the consulate getting our FM3's when our realtor called and told us not to go to the escrow company the following day to sign papers. Talk about the highs and the lows - getting our visas versus our house deal starting to fall apart.
There was some chance it could be resuscitated but it didn't happen. We go in to the escrow company to pick up our check today, which thankfully is large enough to provide decent consolation.
Our realtor is confident that it will sell quickly since it is such a unique property, and it is already back on the market. Unfortunately without any furniture it won't look as good! We have hired a caretaker to come over once a week and check on things and are in the process of hiring a landscaper for the final mowings of the year and some leaf collection if it goes that far.
While I have some mood swings with the ups and downs of this new reality, we are still excited about heading out of here next week. We leave next Thursday, and I think I will probably be screaming with joy for 100 miles or more!
I think we must have needed a lesson that things don't always go the way you expect them to. We are resilient and positive - and nothing is going to diminish our enthusiasm and excitement for the adventure ahead.

Oh NO! Oh well, it is just a blip. But I can't believe it happened.
You are going to be too happy to be on the road headed south to worry about it. And you got a little jingle in your pocket from the escrow.

We checked out the links to your house in Mexico. My husband and I nearly shorted the keyboard from all the drooling we did. We can't wait till we have earned something that great, as well.
Oh Nancy, that is so trying. I'm a realtor, so I've seen it happen many times.....no matter how wrecked people get, it always works out in the end and you will live longer and better as a result of your attitude. Best wishes! Elliott

This whole mortgage crisis couldn't have come at a worse time for our deal...but we are meeting with our realtor to evaluate pricing strategies and are really trying to remain positive.
I was in commercial real estate for 25 years and one of our sayings was "time kills deals." I think that's what happened in our situation.

This disappointment with the sale falling through is, as you said, good practice for living in Mexico. Not to bring you down, but living here does require as much resiliency and positivity as you can muster. Things just don't often happen on schedule, as you expect or as promised. But it'll be worth it.
That's a bummer Nancy. You're right to look at it as good practice for Mexico. I'm having to practice my Mexico outlook this week too, stuck in Yuma with last minute things that need replacing on our RV.
I think you are right about time as a factor in killing the deal. Timing as well, this is a bad time for RE. It will sell, it's much too beautiful to stay on the market long. Go out there and bury a statue of St Joseph upside down in the yard. That will cinch a sale.
