Why we blog
There's been a lot of flap lately among the Latin American blogger community about comments. I don't want to rehash what's been said - but the more I thought about it the more I knew I needed to get something out.
The crux of the matter for me is that it's MY BLOG and I can set the rules. My blog is a fun place for me to talk about our experiences here in Mexico. I really enjoy it. I think other people appreciate the effort I put into it. I love it when people comment, too.
BUT....I want it to stay fun. I don't want to put a bunch of rules on how I blog. Regular readers will note that sometimes I write three or four posts a week and sometimes more than a week will go by. It just depends on what I am thinking about, how busy I am, etc.
I don't want it to be like WORK. I want it to be FUN. Sometimes it's all I can do to write a post, and I have no more time to give to it. That means comments may go unanswered sometimes. I have a "email us" link at the right so you can email me if you need a response. And actually, questions that really require a response should be sent in an email anyway. In my book comments are just that - comments.
So, please help me keep on having fun.
PS - The lizard above - I found him in our office yesterday and think he had been there a while because he was really lethargic. We released him in the backyard, sprinkled him with the hose, and an hour later he was gone. He was about 8 inches long.

Number one, that is one cool lizard, haven't seen one like that down here.
Number two, you are correct, it is supposed to be fun and not like work. I don't think the discussion was meant to make anyone feel bad, we all have our own pace of writing and commenting and replying. I don't think there are "rules" per se, but as Gringa said, there is a certain level of courtesy that might be expected. I haven't noticed that you don't respond to comments, in fact, I don't have that problem with any of the blogs I regularly read. It's the ones that I stumble upon "out there" outside our little blogosphere that seem to not welcome new readers or comments. I actually think the Latin American blogger scene is very active, interactive and yes, still fun.
Keep up the lovely blog.
"PS - The lizard above...He was about 8 inches long." = poetry.
I love your blog too!
What they all said ;)
(where the hell did "they all" come from in my California brain? Sometimes I think I'm channeling some southern ancestor)
Amen - when I started blogging I truly didn't care if ANYONE read it - I just found it joyful to write - for the first time in my life. If anyone else enjoys what I say or has comments, so be it but I sure as heck don't want to feel I "have to" do anything - ever again in my life, anymore!
Thanks for writing Nancy!
It is fun, and that's the truth!
Thanks for your kind words, now I need to get out there and scare up some pictures to go with a post I've been thinking about!
I've refused to take up the gauntlet on my blog. I so heartily agree with you that a comment is just that, a comment. My email is also posted and I do respond to every one I get. Having visited your neck of the woods and neighborhood, and kind of toyed with the idea of moving there, I absolutely love seeing your pictures and hearing what life is really like. Keep it up!
