Normal life
I haven't written much lately because it has just become normal to live here now so it seems like there isn't much to say! We work on our Spanish, shop, cook,visit with friends, walk the dogs, read, eat out and the rest. More or less the same things anyone does anywhere. But living here makes all the ordinary things so much better.
For example, yesterday we wanted to take a walk in the afternoon. It's much too hot to just walk around town in the afternoon so what did we do? Walk on the beach!
Speaking of hot, it has started to heat up here for the summer. A couple of days ago it was as though a switch had been flipped - both the heat and the humidity ratcheted up a notch. We have been turning on the air conditioning (using "dehumidify") in the evening if we watch television and then when we go to bed. When we open the bedroom door in the morning, the humidity hits you hard - but in 5 minutes you have forgotten about it.
We now try to walk the dogs in the morning as early as possible so we aren't out in the blazing sun. Our bandanas are always with us for mopping the perspiration. We use up a 5 gallon water bottle every couple of days. We eat salad for dinner. I'm loving it. If it wasn't for the condensation that drips all over when you try to sip from your glass it would be perfect! (I probably should make a bunch of La Gringa's Inventions since we sure don't need to wear socks ourselves...)
I've been snapping pictures of Henry whenever he cuddles up with his toys. He almost always has a toy nearby, or if he's sleeping he uses one as a pillow. The pictures above were taken over the last week.

Your dog is absolutely adorable!
Ya'll are now candidates for living anywhere in the deep south, ha! Like New Orleans or Houston where I lived for 34 years with air conditioning.........The good thing is the humidity is good for your skin. I like to tell people jokingly that I'm actually 85 but don't have wrinkles because I grew up in humidity......Some probably believe that!
I was really hoping for some rain last night! But alas, it was just a tease.
It's 89.3 in our house right now and the humidity is at a level I don't even want to know. I was thinking it was early, but I went back in my blog, and guess what? On July 1 of last year I was complaining about it being 89.6, so I guess we are right on schedule.
I grew up in Corpus Christi and I know it was hot and humid there, I remember having trouble sleeping at night, but I'd go out every day and play tennis at noon. No sunblock, no hat. Now, I get up at 5 so I can walk Chica before the sun's up, and I've taken to going out in the evening for a walk. There's talk of tropical storms on the morning net now, and one of them is going to bring a change. I'm looking forward to it.
Well, we Pacific Northwesteners are not far behind you. It is 10:30 PM here and the temperature is 83. We are suppose to see mid-90s tmorrow. I may not need to fly dowm to Manzanillo to see how I can acclimate to Mexican summers. I refuse to turn on the air conditioning this summer, but I wish I had more fans.

We're adjusting to the heat, I actually shivered a bit ago when the ceiling fan was going too fast. Weird. But we still do dumb things like walk to the mercado at noon - there wasn't a wisp of a breeze in there - but at least our smoothies will be wonderful now that we have fruit and yoghurt!
And Steve, no way is Manzanillo in the summer anything like Oregon! Cierto!
Hi Nancy! The baby looks so sweet with his toy. I love to see that. My dogs only seem to have a contest to who can destroy the toy the fastest. ;-(
Try the invention -- it's not perfect but it definitely helps. Cotton socks, of course, work best. Don't ask me why we don't have any type of beverage/cup holders here in La Ceiba -- where they are needed so badly.
